Interesting Auto Jobs - Jobs in Auto Racing
Danny Day's Oil Paintings of Auto Racing
Jobs in auto racing are plentiful or scarce, depending on which end of racing you are looking at, so if you want one, start thinking "out of the car". Actual driving jobs are very scarce. The competition is heavy, you need skill, connections, and experience just to begin to think you have a chance at driving. However, there are some other paths to try within this huge industry.
If you want to be the star, the driver, start where you can. There are amateur races as well as professional races. Local tracks, small towns, fairs and carnivals can all have race driving opportunities. Race car owners need drivers, but they also need the team that keeps that car working. Pit crew, managers, media and public relations people, and an office team for scheduling, payroll, advertising, and travel arrangements.
The first type is stock-car racing, or auto racing that uses the stock editions of automobiles to race around an oval track. NASCAR is the most well-known, professional version of this sport and is immensely popular in the South as well as other parts of the country.
NASCAR Racing is divided into several "Cup Series" racing competitions. Its popularity in pop culture only lends to making the Cup Series' more popular. Thirty six races per year form up the Sprint Cup, which is the top series of racing in North America.
The "Nationwide Series" is another race series that goes along with the cup shows. The series features all kinds of drivers from new talent to the old pros. Finally, NASCAR also has the Craftsman truck series, which uses full size pickup trucks with 25 races in a year.
The cars are noticeably different in that they usually have slender bodies, large hydrofoils, and open wheels, which help to make them more maneuverable on average than a stock car. These are also raced on tracks that curve and wind far more than the oval tracks in stock-car racing.
A newer opportunity for those who want to improve their driving talents are the many racing schools and racing experience commercial operations, like Mario Andretti and Jeff Gordon have begun for the public to enjoy. Here, you can get a hands on racing school driving experience. Drive NASCAR, Indy or Formula style cars, or BMW on real tracks for an affordable $99 up to $1149 for multiple style cars and more time, up to 45 minutes. You never know who might be watching
